Some Sections of Regional Rail Network Must be Rebuilt, Says Armenian Minister

Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan today told reporters in Yerevan that any agreement to reopen regional transportation links applies to both Armenia and Azerbaijan.

"Both must unblock the transport routes in a proportional way for interaction to begin. This will benefit not only us, but also our neighboring countries in the region," Sanosyan said.

Regarding the reopening of rail links, Sanosyan said some sections of the former rail network must be rebuilt.

"We know that the railway passed through Nakhichevan and Meghri. If a decision is made to operate it, then that section should be restored. There was a railway in the direction of Ijevan during the Soviet years. Presumably, when there is peace in the region, we will be able to completely unblock it. I think it will be economically profitable to work in that direction as well," Sanosyan told reporters.
