Armenia, Uruguay FMs Meet in Yerevan; Discuss Strengthening Relations

Following a meeting today in Yerevan with visiting Uruguayan Foreign Minister Francisco Bustigo met today in Yerevan, Acting Armenian Foreign Minister Armen Grigoryan, at a joint press conference, said that Yerevan “greatly appreciates Uruguay’s principled position regarding the Azerbaijani-Turkish aggression against Artsakh in the fall of 2020.”

"I have the honor to host my Uruguayan counterpart, Foreign Minister Francisco Bustigo, who is on an official visit to Armenia. This visit reaffirms cordial Armenian-Uruguayan relations and strong friendly ties,” Grigoryan said.

Next year, Armenia and Uruguay will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.  

“Of course, our traditional cooperation with friendly Uruguay, the ties between the Armenian and Uruguayan peoples have a more comprehensive history. We remember that Uruguay was the first state, in 1965, that officially recognized the Armenian Genocide, thus reaffirming its reputation as an advocate of universal values ​​and fundamental human rights,” Grigoryan said.

Ambassador Bustijo will meet with various Armenian government officials to discuss future economic development cooperation.
