Armenia is not issuing passports at the moment due to a lack of the blue identity booklets.

Several individuals recently telephoned Hetq, claiming they filed for passports but were told none were available.

Hetq contacted the Passport and Visa Department, a subdivision of the Police, for clarification.

The Police Press Service confirmed the information, only mentioning that the lack of passports was due to the coronavirus. The Service promised to release further news later.

Hetq also called the Passport and Visa Department’s hotline, but the line was constantly busy.

No one at the Department’s Yerevan branches answered our calls.

Hetq finally got in touch with a staffer at the Department’s Shirak branch who said that they couldn’t say when passports would be available.
