Erdoğan Says "Zangezur Corridor" Will Spur Regional Economic Development
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told reporters on the plane returning from Sochi where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin that the so-called Zangezur Corridor, if finalized, will serve to boost trade and economic opportunities for all countries in the South Caucasus.
“Of course, the Armenian side must fulfill its obligations in the matter,” Erdoğan is quoted as saying by Akşam TV.
The Turkish president noted that there was a sincere and effective exchange of views with Putin and that the Russian president is ready to discuss the issue of creating a "Six Country Platform" to facilitate regional peace.
The platform would include Turkey, Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, Armenia and Georgia.
Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Putin, at the Sochi meeting, declared that they want to reach a compromise on the demarcation of the Armenian Azerbaijani border and the development of transportation infrastructure.
Erdoğan told reporters that Ankara would not reverse its plan to purchase S-400 missile defense systems from Russia despite U.S. imposed sanctions.
Erdoğan confessed that relations with the Biden administration were not going well and that he might meet with U.S. President Biden more than once in Rome.
