Iran Bans Azerbaijani Military Planes from Its Airspace
Iran has banned Azerbaijani military aircraft from flying over its territory.
NEWS.az reports that Iran conveyed the ban to Baku through official military channels.
These military aircraft of Azerbaijan are carrying military equipment to units stationed in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan,” NEWS.az writes.
Iran mostly uses the territory of Azerbaijan for transport and transit operations, which is mainly carried out through the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC).
The news site writes that the ban will not have much impact since Azerbaijan rarely uses this route.
Meanwhile, Iran has been conducting large-scale military exercises near the Azerbaijani border.
In a September 27 interview with the Turkish Anadolu Agency, Aliyev said the first set of exercises were “surprising” and that they were unprecedented in the last 30 years. “Why now? Why exactly on our border? These questions are being asked by the Azerbaijani public, not me,” Aliyev said.
