Armenia to Boost Defense Spending 11% in 2022

26.5% (581 billion AMD) of Armenia’s 2022 budget will be spent on social protection programs, notably old-age pensions, family benefits, etc. The 2022 draft budget, if approved by the National Assembly, will increase social protection spending by 15.1%.

The Armenian government estimates 1.946 trillion AMD in revenues for 2022 and expenditures of 2.188 trillion, leaving a deficit of 242 billion AMD.

This is what the government predicted when drafting the law on the state budget for 2022. The draft budget was presented to the government on September 30, 2021. The executive branch approved it and sent it to the National Assembly for consideration.

19.7 % of expenditures will go towards General Public Services – 432 billion AMD. The money will go to government ministries, regional administrations, and other state agencies.

15.8% (347 billion AMD) will be spent on defense. The lion's share, 340 billion drams, are planned military defense expenditures. The rest will be directed to research and design work in the field of defense.

2022 will see an increase of 11.1% in defense spending from 2021.

9.8% will go towards economic relations and 8.8% to the education sector.

Spending on education will see an 25.4% increase over 2021.

5.6% of the 2022 budget will go to the health sector, a 4.4% increase from last year.

Funds going to environmental protection will drop by 9.2% from 2021.
