Russia Wants Minsk Group Co-Chairs to Visit South Caucasus, Says Foreign Ministry Spokesperson
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova, at a news briefing today, said that the OSCE Minsk Group format has broad international support and must continue its efforts to resolve the socio-economic and humanitarian problems now facing the South Caucasus.
Zakharova said that the Russia sees the need for the Minsk Group Co-Chairs to visit the region as soon as possible.
She said that Moscow also supports the ‘3+3’ format, proposed by the presidents of Turkey and Azerbaijan, to spur regional cooperation in the South Caucasus.
The platform would include Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran, Armenia and Georgia.
"As for Georgia's position, we hear contradictory statements from Tbilisi regarding its participation in this advisory mechanism. But that is the position of a sovereign state. We assume that the '3 + 3' ratio is in the interests of all countries in the region," Zakharova said.
