Armenian Foreign Minister, UNESCO Head Discuss Protection of Armenian Heritage Sites in Artsakh
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay met in Paris on November 11 and discussed the protection of Armenian historical, cultural and religious heritage sites in Artsakh now under Azerbaijani control following the 2020 Karabakh war.
Mirzoyan, according to a statement released by his office, stressed the need to implement Azoulay’s proposal to send an independent assessment mission to the region within the framework of the active involvement of UNESCO, in particular, the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict.
Mirzoyan is in Paris to attend the 41st session of the UNESCO General Conference.
