Erdoğan to Visit Iran to Finalize Long-Term Cooperation Roadmap

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will visit Iran, this according to Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

Amir-Abdollahian, speaking at a joint press conference in Tehran today with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, said the two countries have reached an agreement to pave the ground for holding expert consultations between diplomats of the two countries to outline a roadmap for long-term cooperation.

Describing Iran-Turkey relations as friendly, historic, and intimate, Amir-Abdollahian, according to an Iranian Foreign Ministry statement, said Erdoğan’s visit can finalize the long-term cooperation roadmap.

The Iranian Foreign Minister said regional and international issues, such as recent developments in Afghanistan, have been among the top issues of negotiations and both sides have emphasized the need for preserving security and tranquility in the West Asia region.

Amir-Abdollahian said both states are pragmatic and expressed the hope that economic obstacles would be lifted as soon as possible because the two countries are determined to apply joint mechanisms to bolster trade ties.

Çavuşoğlu is quoted as saying that Ankara and Tehran  have reached agreements   to expand economic cooperation.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry gave no specific date for Erdoğan's visit, saying it would take place in the near future.
