Armenia Hasn't Officially Requested Russian Military Assistance, Says Armenian Ambassador to Russia
Yerevan has not yet submitted an official request for military assistance from Russia to counter Azerbaijani troops incursions into Armenia.
TASS reports that Armenian Ambassador to Russia Vardan Toghanyan said that Moscow and Yerevan are consulting via military and diplomatic channels but that he couldn’t confirm that Pashinyan’s government had filed an official written request for assistance under the terms of the 1997 Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance.
Earlier today, Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan announced that Yerevan would apply to Moscow for help.
"Since the attack was on Armenia's sovereign territory, we call on Russia to protect Armenia's territorial integrity within the framework of the 1997 agreement," Grigoryan said.
Grigoryan said Armenia expects Russia to provide assistance and that there will be an opportunity to restore Armenia's territorial integrity.
