Pashinyan Vows to Defend Armenia's Sovereignty by All Possible Means

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan, at a special session of country’s Security Council, described the situation on the eastern border with Azerbaijan as relatively calm while remaining extremely tense.

Pashinyan said that today’s Azerbaijani military advance into Armenia can only be described as outright aggression and that any talk of “border disputes” is ridiculous.

“The borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan are clearly set with the legally binding agreements adopted during the Soviet Union. If the problem was a border dispute, Azerbaijan should have long ago accepted our offer to withdraw its troops from the Azerbaijan-Soviet Armenian border, to deploy international observers along the border, to start demarcation and delimitation of the border,” Pashinyan said according to a statement released by his office.

Pashinyan labelled Azerbaijan as “aggressor state” and demanded that Baku withdraw its troops from Armenian sovereign territory.

The hopes of imposing its will on Armenia are in vain," Pashinyan said, adding that Armenia will defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, statehood and independence by all possible means.

Pashinyan stressed the need for a peaceful resolution of the situation, noting that Armenia is committed to the November 9, 2020 and January 11, 2021 trilateral statements.
