Nearly 14,000 Precinct Election Commissioners Will Be Trained for Election Day
The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), in cooperation with the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), is administering nationwide training for Precinct Election Commissioners in advance of the May 6th National Assembly elections. The program targets nearly 14,000 PEC commissioners.
Polling procedures, new election code provisions, familiarity with and use of ballot guides and administering mobile voting are among election‐support topics covered in the training.
The training is supported by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s (OSCE) Yerevan office with financial assistance from the European Union as part of the 1.7 mln Euro project "Support to Two Electoral Cycles in Armenia". The United States Agency for International Development sponsored the preparation program for the PEC trainers earlier this month.
The PEC commissioners training began on April 15th and will conclude on May 3rd.
The May 2nd training session at School Number 19, named after Davit Hovsepyan, will be attended by several high ranking officials, including Central Electoral Commission Chairman, Tigran Mukuchyan, U.S. Ambassador John A. Heffern, Ambassador Andrey Sorokin, Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, Ambassador Traian Hristea, the Head of the EU Delegation and senior officials.
In administering training for PEC commissioners 43 trainers were earlier identified, selected and trained by the CEC and IFES.
