Moscow Waiting for Armenia, Azerbaijan to Send Border Commission Delegations

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova yesterday said that Moscow expects Yerevan and Baku to form delegations that will participate in a commission to demarcate the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

Zakharova, at a press briefing, said the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to establish a bilateral border demarcation commission at their November 26 meeting in Sochi with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Zakharova stressed that work to reopen economic and transport links in the South Caucasus continues, noting that the agreements reached during the Sochi meeting confirmed the readiness of the countries to stabilize the situation in the region.

Speaking about Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s recent demand that Armenia announce an opening date for the so-called ‘Zangezur Corridor’, Zakharova noted that the parties should refrain from statements that slow down the implementation of trilateral agreements.
