No Formal Armenia-Turkey Dialog Agenda Exists, Says Armenian Security Council Head

Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan today said that Armenia is ready to dialog with Turkey but that no formal agenda has yet to be formulated.

Grigoryan, in an interview with Armenian Public TV, said that there are opportunities to normalize relations in the region and cited the possible reopening of the Kars-Gyumri railway.

For example, the opening of the Kars-Gyumri railway creates great opportunities for Armenia and Turkey. It also creates economic interdependence between Armenia and Turkey, which, we think, is a possible factor for stability and security," Grigoryan said.

Grigoryan ruled out the possibility of opening any “corridors” in the region as a precondition for Turkey lifting its blockade of Armenia.

"We have repeatedly stated that any discussion on the corridor is a red line for us,” Grigoryan said, adding that the sides must define what is meant by a “corridor”.

"If by corridors Turkey means using the roads of Armenia as sovereign Armenian territory, then our approaches coincide," he said.

Regarding Turkey’s proposed “3+3” regional cooperation platform, Grigoryan said that Armenia wants to dialog with Ankara on a one-to-one basis, but that it will use other platforms to establish contacts with Turkey.

Grigoryan noted that within the framework of the “3+3 platform, Armenia is ready to send representatives to Ankara and Baku and is ready to host those countries to organize discussions on regional issues if the opportunity arises.
