Armenia Rejects Any "Corridor" Precondition in Normalization Talks with Turkey

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, during a parliamentary Q&A session today, said that any talk of a corridor through Armenia is unacceptable and cannot be set as a precondition in the recently launched Armenia-Turkey normalization process.

"There can be no corridor through the territory of Armenia," Mirzoyan said, adding that any such roadway must remain under Armenian control.

Mirzoyan noted that none of the parties involved have yet set any preconditions.

Mirzoyan described the first meeting of the Turkish and Armenian special representatives, in Moscow on January 14, as “exploratory”.

“We are in favor of unblocking regional links. We understand that as Armenia will get railways and roads through Azerbaijan, in case of the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border, Turkey and Azerbaijan should be able to use Armenian roads," Mirzoyan said.

The foreign minister said that the proposed commission to demarcate the Armenian-Azerbaijani border hasn’t been formed.
