Macron Holds Video Meeting with Armenian, Azerbaijani Leaders

French President Emanuel Macron today had a video meeting with Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev according to the French media.

A statement issued by the Elysée Palace said that today’s video conference was part of the French President's mediation approach, coordinated with the President of the European Council Charles Michel, aimed at promoting dialogue and joint humanitarian and confidence-building measures between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Pashinyan’s office followed up by releasing a press release stating:

The parties exchanged views on the solution of the existing humanitarian problems, the unblocking of regional infrastructures under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the two countries, the reduction of tensions on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the demarcation, access of international organizations to Nagorno Karabakh, as well as a wide range of issues.

Prime Minister Pashinyan stressed the need for a lasting settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and the signing of a peace treaty under the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairmanship.

The last time Macron met with Pashinyan and Aliyev was on December 15, 2021 in Brussels within the framework of the European Partnership Summit. On the same day, Pashinyan and Ali met with European Council President Charles Michel.The meeting followed a meeting in Sochi on November 26, during which the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan met with Russian President Vladimir Putin

The agreement on the meeting in Brussels was reached on November 19, when the President of the European Council had telephone conversations with Pashinyan և Aliev.
