Beijing Winter Games: Mikayel Mikayelyan Comes in 47th in 15km + 15km Skiathlon

Mikayel Mikayelyan, representing Armenia, came in 47th in the
Men's 15km + 15km Skiathlon today at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.

Mikayelyan, 22 from Ashotsk, covered the thirty-kilometer distance with a time of 1:25:53.7.

Alexander Bolshunov (1:16:09.8) and Denis Spitsov (1:17:20.8), from Russia, came in first and second respectively. Livo Niskanen, from Norway (1:18:10.0), took third place.

Mikayelyan will compete in the Men’s cross -country 15km Classic on February 11.

Armenia’s Katya Galstyan, also from Ashotsk, is scheduled to compete in the Women’s Sprint Free Qualifier on February 8.

Mikayelyan and figure skater Tina Garabedian, from Canada, are Armenia’s flagbearers at the Beijing Winter Games.

Six athletes are competing at the games for Armenia in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and figure skating.

Armenia gained IOC recognition in 1993 and made its Olympic debut at the Lillehammer 1994 Olympic Winter Games. It has yet to win an Olympic Winter Games medal, with its best finish being 19th, which happened twice, both at Nagano 1998, in pairs figure skating (Maria Krasiltseva and Aleksandr Chestnikh), and men's moguls (Armen Rafayelyan).
