Armenian Government Rejects "Greater Transparency" Bill

The Armenian government today announced its opposition to a bill that would require the Minister of Foreign Affairs to submit a quarterly report, and the Prime Minister twice a year, to the parliament regarding any ongoing foreign policy and security processes, including negotiations with foreign countries.

Opposition With Honor MP Hayk Mamijanyan, the bill’s sponsor, argues the need for the bill is a result of the 2020 Karabakh war and the 2015 constitutional amendments that made Armenia a parliamentary government.

The government believes the bill is unnecessary since the Constitution affords the parliament various oversight mechanisms on the executive branch.
