Former Armenian HRD Labels Pashinyan's Karabakh Remarks "Extremely Dangerous"

Former Armenian Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan, in a Facebook post today, described yesterday’s remarks by Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan on the Karabakh as “extremely dangerous for Armenia and Artsakh”.

"Armenia's security system is being destroyed by such statements, which are conditioned by narrow political interests and have no professional grounds,” Tatoyan wrote.

Yesterday, in parliament, Pashinyan admitted his guilt and responsibility for both the 44-day war and defeat but denied claims by the opposition that he’s handing over land to Azerbaijan.

Zeroing in on Pashinyan’s confession that he hid the truth of the international community’s stance on Karabakh, Tatoyan accused government officials of justifying Azerbaijani military incursions into Armenia to cover up their mistakes and to prevent public discontent.

Tatoyan said that those who attempt to bring these facts to light are being pressured to step down, leading to an information blockade in Armenia.

“Thus, details of Azerbaijan's criminal actions have been hidden from the international community since the end of the war. These facts were also hidden from the domestic community and the diaspora,” Tatoyan wrote.

Tatoyan also ridiculed Pashinyan’s declared “peace agenda”, arguing that it is one-sided and only favors the interests of Baku.

“The so-called peace agenda was advanced and promoted to the world in a condemnable fashion while Azerbaijan continues to talk about peace with us via threats of destruction. In parallel, statements appeared in Armenia to pacify people’s awareness without even showing one ounce of result from this agenda,” Tatoyan wrote.

Tatoyan said Pashinyan’s declared ‘peace agenda’ is being implemented at a very high cost – the rights and dignity of Armenians and the country.

“There are officials in Armenia who prefer their political interests and the preservation of their positions to the country's security,” Tatoyan wrote.
