Yerevan: Young Hunger Strikers Want Peers to Focus on Artsakh Issue

Two young Armenian citizens, who fought in the 2020 Artsakh war, went on hunger strike today in Yerevan’s Liberty Square to draw their peers’ attention to the Karabakh issue.

Never Kirakosyan and Artur Avagyan said anyone can join their hunger strike and that the Karabakh issue is so critical that it prompted them to take such an extreme step.

“When our bodies are sick, the immune system sends a signal that a problem exists. We are serving as that signal,” Kirakosyan told Hetq.

Kirakosyan, a reservist lieutenant, and Avagyan, who fought as a volunteer, said they will refrain from talking about the war.

“"We don’t manipulate it. We do not want to talk about it. We understand that it provides a context for all this, but we ask that one’s participation in the 44-day war not become a subject of contention," Kirakosyan said.
