Rolf Hosfeld ‘s "Death in the Desert" Published in Armenian

Rolf Hosfeld ‘s 2015 book on the Armenian Genocide, Tod in der Wuste (Death in the Desert), has been published in eastern Armenian.

A book launch was held in Yerevan’s Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute on April 26.

Hosfeld was the Academic Director of the Potsdam Lepsius House in Germany, a Research Center for Genocide Studies, and worked as an independent writer and historian. He also authored the book Operation Nemesis.

Hayk Martirosyan, a researcher at the Lepsius House, collaborated with the author for four years before Hosfeld's death.

"It was clear to Rolfe that he had to knock on the door of ordinary Germans. It was clear that the book's audience had to be wider than that of researchers and historians."

A Turkish version of the book has already been published.

Harutyun Marutyan, founding director of Yerevan’s Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, says the book sheds new light on the events of 1915.

Marutyan says he hopes more young Armenians will attend such events.

"For many Armenian youth, the Genocide has remained within the sphere of symbolic knowledge. This is evidenced by the fact that we have very few young Armenian visitors at the museum. "
