Armenia Allocates US$1.6 Million to Design New Metro Station
Armenia plans to initially spend 750 million drams (US$1.6M) to design a new metro station in Yerevan.
The new station will, once completed, extend Yerevan’s one-line ten station system to the capital’s Ajapnyak district northwest of the city center.
Last November, then Yerevan Mayor Hayuk Marutyan announced that the Russian company Metrogibotrans had won the tender to design the station.
According to the initial version of the project, it was planned to build a bridge over the Hrazdan Gorge only for the metro. That idea was later scrapped for an underground passage. Work on the tunnel started years ago but remains to be completed.
The government is now looking for funding to complete the design phase of the station.
