Armenian Political Opposition to Launch Civil Disobedience in Bid to Oust Pashinyan

A leader of the political opposition in Armenia announced the launch of widespread civil disobedience tomorrow in a push to force the Pashinyan government to resign.

Armenian National Assembly Vice Speaker Ishkhan Saghatelyan, who heads the Hayastan parliamentary faction, said that protesters will camp out in Yerevan’s Liberty Square tonight, threatening that they will block many roads throughout the country.

“Tomorrow, especially in the Kentron community, there must be no automobile traffic. I call on our compatriots and students to lunch hunger and work strikes tomorrow," Saghatelyan said in his speech to supporters today.

Those opposed to PM Nikol Pashinyan, and his government, took to the streets in Yerevan last week, staging marches and demonstrations to force Pashinyan to resign.

They accuse the government of handing over Artsakh to Azerbaijan and giving into Turkish peace process demands that weaken Armenia’s sovereignty.
