Armenia: Opposition to Publicly Call for Pashinyan’s Resignation
The political opposition in Armenia will publicly call for the resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
Ishkhan Saghatelyan, Vice Speaker of the National Assembly and Hayastan parliamentary faction MP, yesterday announced that anti-government protesters will gather in Yerevan’s France Square today to voice their demand that Pashinyan and his administration resign.
The opposition argues that Pashinyan is guilty of Armenia’s defeat in the 2020 Karabakh war and the death of thousands.
The opposition claims that Pashinyan admitted he could have prevented the war but didn’t, and that he’s gone back on his word to fight for Artsakh’s right to self-determination.
The opposition also says Pashinyan’s government hasn’t followed through on its rapid economic growth promises and that poverty and inflation are on the rise.
Saghatelyan said protesters will march on the parliament but will not attempt to seize the building, contrary to reports issued by the National Security Service, since government buildings no longer hold any authority.
