Former Armenian HRD Ridicules EU Council President's Statement as Insufficient

Former Armenian Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan has ridiculed today's statement, issued by EU Council President Charles Michel following the Brussels meeting between Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, for completely ignoring the rights of Artsakh Armenians to self-determination and Azerbaijan’s genocidal policy towards Artsakh.

Tatoyan, in Facebook post, accused the Armenian government of complicity in the matter, arguing that officials in Yerevan have not effectively advanced the thesis that the territorial integrity has nothing to do with the status of Artsakh.

“They have justified or legalized illegal Azerbaijani armed installations in Gegharkunik and Syunik. They have ceded our territorial jurisdiction,” Tatoyan wrote, referring to the Armenian government.

Tatoyan also accused the Pashinyan administration of using pressure tactics against those in Armenia who attempt to raise the issue of ongoing Azerbaijani crimes.

“They tied the hands of our state in international processes and made the country a victim of geopolitical interests. All this has freed Azerbaijan more to fill the world with fraud,” Tatoyan wrote.

Michel’s statement includes the following one line regarding Artsakh.

“I also stressed to both leaders that it was necessary that the rights and security of the ethnic Armenian population in Karabakh be addressed.”
