Armenian Court Relaunches Criminal Case Against Former MP and Son
Armenia’s Court of Appeals has overturned a lower court’s decision to terminate the criminal case filed against former MP Hrant Davtyan and his son who were charged with concealing the ownership of property.
The motion to overturn the decision was filed by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Hetq wrote about the Davtyan’s family holdings in a 2019 article entitled Wealthy Armenians Join the Dubai Land Rush.
Davtyan first served in Armenia’s parliament in 2012.
According to his official CV, he was in private business from 1995-2001. Afterwards, he served as president of the Grant Group, whose businesses include food, beverages, cigarettes, and liquified natural gas for vehicles.
In 2017, Hetq published articles detailing the financial disclosure forms Davtyan was required to file as a candidate for re-election. No Dubai holdings were listed.
After his re-election to parliament in 2018, he filed a new disclosure form showing that he owned one private house, one plot of land, and two apartments, one of which is in Dubai.
