Armenian Parliament Speaker Awards Cash Bonuses to Ruling Faction MPs, Not to Opposition
While Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan signed a decree today stating that all MPs would receive a one-time cash bonus, it turns out that the money will only go to MPs in his Civil Contract faction.
Hetq contacted Simonyan’s press secretary, Tzovinar Khachatryan, who confirmed that the bonuses will go to ruling Civil Contract MPs.
Khachatryan said the bonuses were for the “hard work” the MPs performed in recent parliamentary committee meetings and special sessions.
Khachatryan said opposition MPs would not get the bonuses given inexcusable absences from the parliament’s work. Opposition With Honor and Hayastan MPs have boycotted the legislature since April.
The amount of the bonuses hasn’t been made public. Simonyan’s decree does not provide the amount.
Those wanting to know must send a written request to Simonyan’s office.
