2020 Artsakh War Memorial Park Slated for Yerevan

Plans to build a 30-hectare memorial park in the Yerevan Botanical Garden to honor the memory of the victims of the 2020 Artsakh war have been submitted for an Environmental Impact Assessment.

The Armenian government approved the plan last year and allocated 64.3 million drams (US$158,750) for its construction by a company called Yerevan Projects CJSC.

The 79-hectare Yerevan Botanical Garden, a branch of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences, is in the city’s northeastern Avan district.

The memorial park will feature a visitors’ center and facilities for exhibitions and memorial ceremonies.

A walkway will lead visitors up to the memorial platform where monuments dedicated to fallen Armenian combatants will be erected.

The park will also feature an artificial pond where visitors can stop and quietly reflect on the aftermath of the war and those who died.

The park will take two years to build once final environmental approval is granted.
