Armenian Parliament Speaker to Raise Inexcusable Absence of Opposition MPs with Constitutional Court

Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan plans to raise the matter of terminating the powers of opposition MPs who have boycotted the parliament for weeks with the Constitutional Court.

Tzovinar Khachatryan, Simonyan’s press secretary, told Hetq that a draft bill on the matter is now ready for parliamentary approval.

If passed by the Parliamentary Council, the ruling Civil Contract faction can send the matter to the court for review.

The opposition With Honor and Hayastan factions have refrained from commenting on the bill, saying no official document has yet been presented.

There are fourteen opposition MPs listed as possibly losing their mandates because of inexcusable absences from the parliament.
