Tehran Will Not Militarily Aid Russia, Says Iranian Foreign Minister
Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in an interview with the Italian la Repubblica newspaper, said that Iran will not help any of the sides in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
"Some Western countries, including the United States, produce weapons and try to sell their products. We also try to avoid any actions that could lead to escalation. We have a defense agreement with Russia, but we will not help any of the parties involved in that conflict," the minister said.
When asked about the possible supply of ammunition and technologies to Russia, Amir-Abdollahian responded that Iran's view on the war in Ukraine is "quite clear and has been officially published many times".
He did not confirm or deny news reports that Iran plans to provide drones to Russia.
On Monday, U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan announced that Iran is preparing to “provide Russia with up to several hundred UAVs, including weapons-capable UAVs on an expedited timeline.”
Sullivan said Iran will also train Russian forces to use them.
