Armenia’s Ministry of Defense reports that the body of a conscript soldier was found today with a gunshot wound to his head.

The body of Arsen Manukyan was found at an Armenian military base in the eastern part of the country.

The ministry says an investigation has been launched.

Update: The Armenian Ministry of Defense later reported that a preliminary investigation found that the soldier shot himself. A criminal case based on Article 522 of the Criminal Code has been filed.

Article 522 - Causing to Commit a Suicide by Negligence 1. Causing serviceman to commit a suicide or attempt suicide by negligence, by means of threat, cruel treatment or humiliation of one’s dignity in a military unit or other place of military service by another serviceman.
