U.S. Reaffirms Commitment to Support Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Process

U.S. State Department Spokesperson Ned Price, during a press briefing on Monday, reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to help Armenia and Azerbaijan reach a long-term comprehensive peace deal.

Price, responding to a reporter’s question about a tweet made Saturday by the U.S. Secretary of State Blinken describing Saturday’s meeting in Tbilisi between the foreign minister of Armenia and Azerbaijan as “positive”, said that Washington has been taking an active role as a n OSCE Minsk Group co-chair and “stands ready to engage bilaterally and with likeminded partners” in this effort.

Price said that Blinken and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Donfried have also had an opportunity to engage at high levels with their Armenian and Azerbaijani counterparts on the matter.

Price said the U.S. continues to believe “that dialogue is the best means by which to achieve a peaceful, democratic, and prosperous future for the South Caucasus.”
