Armenian General Denies He Fled Battlefield During 2020 Artsakh War
Major General Gevorg Gevorgyan, charged with fleeing the battlefield during the 2020 Artsakh war, declared his innocence today in a Yerevan court.
The charge against Gevorgyan, attached to the Artsakh Defense Army’s Artillery Division, claims his action led to the death of twenty Armenian servicemen and the injury of seven others.
The incident is said to have occurred on October 12, 2020, in the area called Juvarlu in Artsakh’s Varanda/Fizuli/ region.
During an Azerbaijani military attack on the Artsakh First Artillery Battalion, Gevorgyan is said to have fled the scene, leaving the Armenian soldiers leaderless.
Gevorgyan is detained at Yerevan’s Nubarashen penitentiary as the criminal trial progresses.
