Belarus Says CSTO Secretary General Should Visit Armenia-Azerbaijan Conflict Zone

At today’s CSTO special video summit in Minsk, State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Alexander Volfovich proposed that the CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas should visit the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and draft a detailed report of the recent fighting.

Today’s CSTO summit was convened at the request of Armenia, following last night's Azerbaijani military attacks along the border.

According to the BELTA news agency, Volfovich said Belarus has always advanced the view that the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan be settled via political and diplomatic means.

The report, once finished, will be presented to the CSTO heads of state for review and to develop settlement proposals.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that all possible measures to stabilize the situation should be taken and urged Yerevan and Baku to abandon the use of force and to immediately begin negotiations.

Also participating in summit were President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda, and Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO Valery Semerikov.

Azerbaijan left CSTO in 1999.
