
Armenian Parliament Elects Former Justice Minister to Supreme Judicial Council
Armenia’s National Assembly today elected former Justice Minister Karen Andraesyan and former Deputy Justice Minister Yeranuhie Tumanyants members of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), the country’s highest judicial body
Established in 2015, the SJC is authorized to appoint and dismiss judges and is tasked with ensuring the independence of judges and courts.
67 of the parliament’s 107 MPs cast ballots in today’s vote. All 67 Civil Contract MPs voted in favor of Andreasyan and Tumanyants.
The opposition Hayastan and With Honor factions continue to boycott the parliament’s sessions.
The parliament’s majority Civil Contract faction nominated the two to fill the vacancies in the SJC.
