Yerevan, Baku Reach Peace Treaty Deal, Says Turkish Foreign Minister
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu today said Azerbaijan and Armenia have reached an agreement on the basic points of the peace treaty.
"An agreement was reached on five fundamental points. It includes recognition of each other's territorial integrity, demarcation of borders, etc. All that remains is to implement them," Çavuşoğlu said in an interview today with TVnet.
Çavuşoğlu said the process of normalizing relations between Ankara and Yerevan cannot be separated from peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Çavuşoğlu said the October 6 Prague meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was positive.
He noted that there is pressure on official Yerevan, both inside the country and from the Armenian diaspora, to derail negotiations with Ankara.
Armenia and Turkey appointed special envoys for the regulation of relations last year.
Armenia is represented by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Ruben Rubinyan, and Turkey by former ambassador of Turkey to the USA, Serdar Kılıç.
