ECHR Orders Armenia to Pay Damages to Family of Man Conscripted While Sick
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ordered the Armenian government to pay damages to the family of a man who was conscripted into military service in 2009 while suffering from serious health problems.
The man, Areg Malkhasyan, died on July 4, 2009, eight days after being drafted
The ECHR, in a decision today, ordered Armenia to pay the family of Areg Malkhasyan EUR 35,000 for non-pecuniary damage and EUR 2,500 for costs and expenses incurred.
The ECHR writes the Armenian government violated Malkhasyan’s right to life.
