Russian Foreign Minstry Accuses West of Sowing Anti-Russian Sentiment in Armenia

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has accused the West of sowing anti-Russian sentiment in Armenia.

Zakharova, according to TASS, issued a statement on Monday charging Washington and Brussels of circulating “"unsubstantiated accusations that Moscow isn’t fulfilling its security obligations to Armenia."

"In this regard, we would like to recall that it was our country that stopped the war in November 2020, sent peacekeepers who brought peace and stability to the region, and to this day makes a decisive contribution to the settlement of armed incidents between Baku and Yerevan. The attempts of external forces to achieve the withdrawal of the Russian peacekeeping contingent is precisely aimed at destabilizing the South Caucasus," TASS quotes Zakharova as saying.

She said the West is ordering foundations, NGOs and the median to smear Russia.

"We see what unprecedented outside pressure brotherly Armenia is under. To damage the centuries-old ties between our countries and peoples, steps are being taken to discredit Russia's policy in the region," Zakharova said, adding that such efforts will fail.

"At all levels, we continue to work with partners in the interests of a comprehensive normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, including unblocking transport communications, delimitation of the border, agreeing on a peace treaty, solving humanitarian problems, establishing a public and expert dialogue.”
