Pashinyan, Macron Meet at Francophonie Summit in Tunisia
French President Emmanuel Macron and Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan will meet today on the sidelines of the 18th Francophonie Summit in Djerba, Tunisia, and will likely discuss the Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization process.
Speaking at the summit, Pashinyan said Armenia is committed to ensuring the rights and security of the Armenian population of Nagorno Karabakh.
"Faced with new threats, we expect the international community to make a fair assessment of the situation in our country today, condemning the occupation of some parts of the Armenian territory and demanding the return of Azerbaijani forces to their previous positions. Armenia, for its part, is firmly committed to contributing to the process of a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, as well as to ensuring the rights and security of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh,” Pashinyan said in Tunisia.
Pashinyan and European Council President Charles Michel earlier met at the summit.
The last Francophonie Summit took place in Yerevan, in 2018, and had to be postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
