Putin, Lukashenko in Yerevan for CSTO Meeting

The leaders of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have arrived in Yerevan to attend a session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization’s (CSTO) Council of Foreign Ministers and Council of Defense Ministers.

Armenia currently serves as president of the Russian-backed security alliance.

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Kasim-Jomart Tokayev, Kyrgyz President Sadir Zhaparov and Tajik President, along with CSTO General Secretary Stanislav Zas, will meet at Yerevan’s Dvin Hotel.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Yerevan yesterday.

The parties will discuss issues of international and regional security, including the need to improve the CSTO crisis response system

Also on the agenda is joint assistance to Armenia.

Earlier, Zas, without elaborating, announced that the member states have agreed to provide such assistance to Armenia.
