Putin, Aliyev Discuss Implementation of 2020 Artsakh War Ceasefire Agreements
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev again spoke by telephone today, the second this week, and discussed the implementation of the tripartite ceasefire agreements signed by the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan.
"Further steps in the implementation of the tripartite agreements of the heads of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia were discussed, emphasizing the practical issues of unblocking transport and economic connections in the region," reads a statement issued by the Kremlin.
Putin and Aliyev last spoke on November 22 and discussed the implementation of agreements with Armenia regarding security on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the restoration of transport links in the South Caucasus.
On November 23, Putin attended the CSTO summit in Yerevan and met with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
After the meeting with Aliyev and Pashinyan in Sochi on October 31, Vladimir Putin announced that the parties agreed on a joint statement. He also noted that the meeting was useful and creates conditions for further steps towards an overall peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
