Aliyev: Azerbaijan Pressing Ahead with “Zangezur Corridor” Construction

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev today announced his government is pressing ahead with work on the so-called Zangezur Corridor linking Azerbaijan proper with its Nakhijevan enclave via Armenia, and construction on the section within Azerbaijan will be completed in 2024.

Aliyev, a trilateral meeting of the heads of state of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Turkey in Turkmenistan, said 40% of the work on laying the railway tracks and 70% on the construction of the highway has been completed.

Armenia takes issue with the term “corridor” and has stated that any transportation link via its territory must be under Yerevan’s control.

Aliyev’s remarks were broadcast on the AzTV state television channel.
