Artsakh Rallygoers Urge Russian Peacekeepers to Unblock Lachin Corridor

Armenians rallied in the Artsakh capital of Stepanakert today and then marched to the Azerbaijani-controlled town of Shushi demanding that Russian peacekeepers unblock a section of the only roadway linking Artsakh and Armenia.

ArtsakhPress reporter Tigran Petrosyan, one of the rally organizers, said their goal is to focus the international community’s attention one the humanitarian crisis caused by Azerbaijan's blockade of Artsakh.

"Yesterday, we went with a group of people to negotiate with the Russian peacekeepers, because both parties did not fulfill the clear agreements on November 9. Azerbaijan violates point 6, and Russia, which had undertaken to ensure the security of the Lachin Corridor, is unable to fulfill its mission. We must turn to the command of the Russian peacekeepers to clear the Azerbaijanis from our path. Yesterday they tried to convince us to pass. We said that we cannot pass until the road is clear. This is not an anti-Russian action. We must show the civilized world that we are not rebels, we are not armed," said Petrosyan, urging rallygoers not to tolerate provocations.

The group then marched to the Stepanakert memorial complex to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Artsakh wars.

Azerbaijanis, posing as environmentalists, have blocked the roadway for over ten days.
