Armenian HRD Says Martial Law Amendments Will Restrict Human Rights

Armenian Human Rights Defender Kristinne Grigoryan says proposed amendments to the country’s legal definition of “martial law” have not been sufficiently debated publicly and can seriously restrict television and internet content.

Grigoryan, in a statement, says the amendments pose serious restrictions human rights restrictions, notably freedom of expression and access to information.

She says the amendments also fail to specify which state body will be entrusted with deciding what content is acceptable or not when martial law is declared.

Grigoryan has urged those proposing the amendments to review their work and make changes to their problematic provisions.
