Ruben Vardanyan to BBC: “Artsakh doesn’t want to be a part of Azerbaijan”

Artsakh State Minister Ruben Vardanyan, in an interview with the BBC today, described the worsening humanitarian crisis in the country due to the ongoing closure of the Lachin Corridor.

Vardanyan invited BBC Hard Talk moderator Stephen Sackur to visit Artsakh and see for himself how the people of Arsakh are coping.

“Back in the Soviet period, in 1988, the people of Artsakh said that they would never be part of Azerbaijan. They are fighting for their freedom and have taken all necessary legal steps, Vardanyan said, adding that Artsakh Armenians believe they have the right to independence, the right to live in their homeland. “Artsakh doesn’t want to be a part of Azerbaijan, this is clear,” Vardanyan said.

I think Ruben Vardanyan is confusing wants with needs! The fact is that it does not matter what the 40,000 or so Armenian residents of Karabakh want, the fact is they are living in what is recognised as part of Azerbaijan and if they want to stay living there then they must become Azerbaijan citizens. They do not have a choice. They could fight of course but that would be suicide so their options are face reality or leave!

I vote Ruben to be next Armenia Prime Minister. At least Ruben has guts.
