Pashinyan Accuses Azerbaijan of Hobbling Peace Process

Armenian PM Nikol Pashiyan, at today’s government cabinet session, said the 46-day closure of the Lachin Corridor and Azerbaijan’s periodic disruption of the natural gas pipeline has deprived thousands of Artsakh pupils and students from getting an education.

Pashinyan said Artsakh kindergartens are closed because of the lack of food given the corridor’s closure.

Pashinyan accused Baku of pursuing a policy designed to “break the will” of Artsakh Armenians and to terrorize them into leaving their homeland.

He said Baku plans to open the corridor for a few days, letting Armenians to leave, and then to close it again and so one until all Armenians move out.

Pashinyan said the international community is slowly realizing that Baku is pursuing a policy of ethnic cleaning.

"But deporting Nagorno Karabakh Armenians from their homes is not the only goal of Azerbaijan. With these provocative actions, Azerbaijan also aims to disrupt the peace agenda, the peace negotiation process, and incite a new war in the region,” Pashinyan said.

He called for Armenians, especially government officials, to shy away from words and actions that contradict the peace process.

"The best way to resolve this conflict de jure is to send an international fact-finding mission to Nagorno Karabakh and the Lachin Corridor. We must consistently work in this direction,” Pashinyan said.
