Armenian, Egyptian Presidents Summarize Their Meeting in Yerevan

Following their meeting in Yerevan today, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan and Egyptian President Fattah El-Sisi issued the following statements to the press.

President Khachaturyan:

Your Excellency, the Honorable President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

It is a great honor for us to host the official visit of the delegation led by Your Excellency to the Republic of Armenia, which I will proudly call historic.

The friendship of our peoples comes from the depths of centuries which, in turn, continues to be strengthened by more than thirty years of stable relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Arab Republic of Egypt.

I consider the negotiations with my colleague, President El-Sisi, to be beneficial, during which we discussed the wide range of cooperation between our two states formed over the years, today's plans and future tasks for the development of bilateral relations.

I should note with satisfaction that today Armenia and Egypt cooperate effectively in political, economic, scientific, educational, cultural, tourist and other fields. Effective cooperation was also formed in several multilateral platforms.

Of course, the volume of bilateral trade is still not satisfactory, however, I am sure that due to our broad political agenda, as well as the joint efforts of the governments of the two countries, the agenda of mutually beneficial cooperation will be further deepened in the near future, and we will also record results in both trade and economic exchange, as well as a in a number of other fields.

I consider it necessary to record that during the past years significant progress has been made in almost all areas of cooperation. Moreover, new perspectives of cooperation are mentioned. More than five dozen cooperation documents were signed between our countries, several documents were also signed within the framework of the visit, which will start new, interesting initiatives.

Tourism is developing dynamically. Egypt has been one of the most preferred vacation destinations for Armenian citizens for years, and the number of our tourists is growing significantly every year. After the recent facilitation of visas for Egyptian citizens by Armenia, we also expect a large flow of Egyptian tourists to Armenia, which will greatly contribute to the strengthening of Armenian-Egyptian friendly ties and the mutual recognition of the two peoples.

Of course, during the meeting with President Al-Sisi, apart from the bilateral agenda, we also touched on issues of security, political and regional importance. We also discussed Armenia's efforts to establish peace and stability in the region.

I cannot fail to mention that the Egyptian-Armenian community has a special role in Armenian-Egyptian relations, which for centuries has been contributing to both the development of Egypt and the strengthening of bilateral ties. In this regard, I would like to express special thanks for the care that our compatriots living in Egypt enjoyed and enjoy at the state level. The Armenian people never forget the open arms reception and support shown by the Egyptian people to their children who survived the genocide.

I sincerely hope that in the current period full of many challenges, the Armenian-Egyptian friendship will be one of the factors, thanks to which our countries will be able to overcome all difficulties and confidently walk towards a bright future.

President El-Sisi:

Taking this opportunity, please accept my warm congratulations on the excellent organization of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) and the success and positive results achieved.

Again, they want to emphasize the significance of this truly historic visit and wish our two states strong relations and new achievements in joint work for the welfare of our peoples.
