Site of Ancient Armenian Capital Gets Protected Status
The Armenian government today approved a proposal to establish a state-owned historical-cultural reserve in the village of Lusarat (Khor Virap) designed to protect the site of the ancient Armenian capital of Artashat (Artaxata).
Founded by King Artashes I (Artaxias I), Artashat served as the capital of the Kingdom of Armenia from 176 BC until 120 AD.
