Artsakh Armenians demonstrated along the Stepanakert-Shushi roadway yesterday demanding the removal of a recently installed Azerbaijani checkpoint along the Lachin Corridor.

Davit Baghryan, one of the protest organizers, told Hetq that the checkpoint is the last straw, and that Artsakh Armenians have two options: either they must accept the facts on the ground or start fighting.

"We have to make sure that the checkpoint is removed. Some people show signs of accepting what’s happened. They say their children will leave but the adults will stay.  Any retreat will lead to the final destruction of Artsakh. We are on the verge of destruction. We are listening to songs about Cilician Armenia, and if we do nothing, one day we will hear songs about losing Artsakh. Armenians all over the world should follow our lead, the Armenians living in Artsakh," says Avanesyan.

Samvel Mnatsakanyan, another organizer, says the indifference of people must be destroyed.

"We need to make people understand that one cannot be indifferent. We always complain about the Russians, but what are we doing to demand something from the Russians? What are we doing as a people? Having adapted to everything, we live. What else needs to happen? The knife has hit the bone," says Mnatsakanyan.

Organizers say the demonstration will continue until they achieve their goal.
