Two Soldiers Arrested by Azerbaijan Near Border Not Saboteurs, Says Armenian Defense Ministry

The Armenian Defense Ministry has refuted a statement released by Azerbaijan’s State Security Service (SSS) that two Armenian soldiers arrested on May 26 near the town of Zangilan (Kovsakan) were part of a larger group of saboteurs.

The ministry says the two soldiers operated a vehicle supplying food and water to Armenian combat positions near the border and had lost their way.

The ministry reports that the soldiers’ weapons were found in the vehicle, proving that the soldiers, even if they exited the vehicle, were in no position to sabotage anything.

The ministry says evidence refuting the Azerbaijani claim will be provided to Armenia’s international partners.

Azerbaijan’s SSS claims that the rest of the Armenian subversive unit fled back across the border after the two soldiers were detained.
